Every Saturday evening, for most of the twentieth century, a newspaper printed on pink paper landed in newsagents across England within minutes of the final whistle. It was called the Football Pink — or the Green 'Un, or the Sports Argus, or the Pink 'Un, depending on where you lived.
"In Birmingham alone, the Sports Argus sold over 17,000 copies every Saturday evening. In Newcastle, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester — every city with a football club had one."
It carried match reports, scorelines, lineups and league tables — all the things you couldn't get anywhere else until the following Monday's paper. The last ones closed between 2005 and 2013, killed by the internet and Sky's destruction of the Saturday 3pm fixture.
Nobody has brought them back. Until now.
