LEAGUE TWO

MARINERS RUN RIOT IN 12 LATE MINUTES

Hunt and Hunt turn it round for York, but McJannet, Andrews and Turi blow them away after the hour at Blundell Park

York had the ball for more than two-thirds of the afternoon at Blundell Park. Grimsby had the goals. In front of 8,111, David Artell's side were level at 2-2 after a frantic first half, then scored three times in 12 minutes to finish it.

It started with a lively spell, and Grimsby led on 13 minutes. A slick move down the left got Cameron McJannet into a crossing position, and Andy Cook headed it in.

Two Hunts, one lead

York were level within five minutes, and their scorer was a former Mariner. From a corner, Alex Hunt rifled a low shot from outside the box into the bottom corner. Ten minutes later Jack Hunt cut in from the right side of the area and curled one into the top corner, and Scott Lindsey's side were in front.

They held it for only three minutes. Maldini Kacurri hit the post from the right side of the box, and Iwan Morgan was quickest to the rebound to level. It was 2-2 at the break.

Twelve minutes of Mariners

After the break York kept the ball and Grimsby kept shooting. On 75 minutes Morgan swung a corner to the far post, and McJannet headed in from close range. Three minutes later Grimsby broke at speed, Géza Turi found substitute Josh Andrews, and Andrews finished into the bottom corner.

Turi got one of his own on 86 minutes, played in by another substitute, Justin Amaluzor, and finished into the bottom corner from the left of the box. Andrews still had time to head against the post.

By the end Grimsby had 24 shots to York's ten, and five different scorers.

A half-time tweak

Artell put the turnaround down to a change at the interval, and to players who picked it up straight away.

They make you work hard against the ball, but then we tweaked something at half-time and then we were outstanding and our in-possession play became more prevalent after that. I thought it was a really good advert for League Two because it was a great game of football.

David Artell, Grimsby Town boss

"We showed them two clips about the point we were making," he added. "It didn't quite work in the first half, but we got the chance to show them and then they got it straight away, which is really pleasing."

"That's on me"

Lindsey, in front of more than 1,000 travelling York fans, took the blame himself. At 2-2 he sent on Alex Newby and went with one holding midfielder, and he admitted afterwards that the gamble didn't pay off.

We were poor and that's on me, because it didn't look like us for long spells. You get one of these games every now and then at this level, but we can't be happy with that.

Scott Lindsey, York City head coach

He was harsher still to the York Press. "No excuses, those goals at the end there were a disgrace," he said, and admitted his half-time dressing-down had been the wrong call: "The group didn't respond very well to that, so I've learned something today."
