LIST'S STOPPAGE-TIME STRIKE DENIES STANLEY

Warren scores after five minutes, Accrington have 17 shots, and Northampton snatch a point in the 92nd minute

Accrington Stanley had 17 shots at the Wham Stadium, in front of 1,979, and led for 87 minutes. Then, in the 92nd minute, Elliott List scored with Northampton Town's third shot on target, and Stanley were left with a 1-1 draw.

It started perfectly for the home side. Zach Jeacock saved from Aidan Borland in the fourth minute, and a minute later Tyler Walton's cross found Charlie Warren, on loan from Bolton, at the far post. It was his fourth league goal of the season.

Stanley on top, but no second

Accrington could have been out of sight by half-time. Shot after shot was blocked, two of them Warren's in the same minute, David Tutonda and Donald Love both had efforts cleared off the line, and Jeacock saved from Alex Henderson. Northampton didn't have a shot until Owen Dale's effort was blocked just before the break.

Northampton made two changes at half-time, sending on Tyrese Fornah and Josh Powell, and they looked better for it. Louie Moulden had to save Powell's header from a Janoi Donacien cross. Stanley still had the better chances. On 53 minutes Love could only guide Henderson's cross over the bar from inside the six-yard box, and later shot over from a set piece, and Jeacock kept out Stefan Mols' header on 70 minutes.

The sting in the tail

Both managers turned to their benches in the last quarter of an hour. Northampton's changes worked. Tyrese Fornah had a strike cleared off the line, and List, on in the 75th minute, almost set up Matty Warhurst, who headed wide from close range. Then, two minutes into stoppage time, Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh headed the ball down to List, and he scored low into the bottom right corner.

There was still time for Lee Evans to fire high and wide after a corner. Accrington will look at the 17 shots and wonder how they only got one goal.

"It feels like a defeat"

John Doolan didn't dress it up.

We should have won, we should have seen it out. We had chances in the game to make sure that happened and didn't take them.

John Doolan, Accrington Stanley boss

We are disappointed, it feels like a defeat. I know we have kept our unbeaten run going but we have got to see that out.

John Doolan, Accrington Stanley boss

Chris Hogg took the blame for a poor first half, and the credit for the changes that rescued it.

It was a snatch in the end. The first half was nothing we want to be as a football team and we had a good discussion at half-time. It was nowhere near the levels we expected or the competitive element you need.

Chris Hogg, Northampton Town manager

It was a great finish from Listy, he made a decent impact coming on. You always know you will get a moment and we showed character and grit.
