CHAMPIONSHIP

McGLYNN THE MAESTRO AS POTTERS PILE MISERY ON NORTH END

The American makes one and scores one, and Preston go home without a shot on target and six points adrift

By Our Special Correspondent

By the time the 21,772 inside the bet365 Stadium headed home, the only question was why it was just 2-0. Stoke had 18 shots to Preston's three. Preston didn't manage one on target.

Stoke had gone two home games without a win, beaten in the last minute by leaders Middlesbrough and then held to a goalless draw by Bristol City in last weekend's storm. Jack McGlynn put that right.

Scorers Stoke: Wilmot 29, McGlynn 53

The marks

Stoke have won seven of their last ten league games and sit fourth on 23 points, level with Birmingham in third. Preston have five points from 13 games, just one from 21 on the road, and are already six points from safety.

Jack McGlynn Whipped in the cross for the opener and finished the second coolly. His third goal in seven games since deadline day
Ben Wilmot Played on with a bad cut above his eye and thumped in the header that broke Preston. Started the move for the second too
Ethan Galbraith Calm and classy, set up McGlynn, then picked up a daft fifth booking that rules him out at Blackburn
Luke Graham Headed against the post and was never troubled at the back
Robert Bozenik All aggression, but sent his one-on-one straight at Iversen's boot
Daniel Iversen The only reason it wasn't four or five. Made four saves, including a desperate one from Devenny
