VALVERDE THUNDERBOLT KEEPS REAL PERFECT
By Our Special Correspondent
AEK Athens FC 2, Real Madrid 3. AEK Athens FC: Aboubakary Koita 12, Stavros Pilios 75; Real Madrid: Jude Bellingham 32, Kylian Mbappé 78, Federico Valverde 90+2. AEK led with 15 minutes left, then Mbappe and a stoppage-time screamer broke Athens hearts
Real Madrid were 15 minutes from a famous defeat in Athens. They left with a fourth win from four in the league phase, and their 100% record intact.
AEK went ahead early when Aboubakary Koita drove in a powerful finish. Jude Bellingham levelled in the 32nd minute with an outrageous back-heel across the face of goal. At 23 years and 128 days, he became the youngest player to score in seven successive Champions League seasons, passing team-mate Kylian Mbappe.
AEK kept going and got their reward 15 minutes from time. Stavros Pilios made a goal-saving block to deny Mbappe, then raced the length of the pitch to finish an attack at the near post.
Three minutes later, Mbappe levelled at the far post from Denzel Dumfries' ball. Two minutes into stoppage time, Federico Valverde, set up by Brahim Diaz, thundered a right-footed shot from outside the box into the top corner.
Koita was sent off after the final whistle as the hosts' frustration boiled over.
Where it leaves them: AEK Athens FC 29th on 3 points; Real Madrid 2nd on 12 points.

CUNHA'S CRAZY FOUR MINUTES SAVE CARRICK

Manchester United 3, AS Roma 2. Man Utd: Bruno Fernandes 58 pen, Matheus Cunha 83, 86; AS Roma: Matias Soule 11, Donyell Malen 17 pen. Two down and booed off at half-time, United storm back to beat Roma, then their hero is sent off
For 45 minutes Old Trafford looked like the end of something. By the final whistle it had seen one of the great Champions League nights, and Michael Carrick was still standing.
Manchester United were two down to Roma inside 17 minutes. Matías Soulé finished an opener that, in Carrick's words, "came from nowhere", and Donyell Malen made it two from the penalty spot. United were booed off at half-time, and Sky Sports judged the setup "arguably even worse than against Como", with Diogo Dalot up the pitch and Ayden Heaven repeatedly exposed down the left.
It got worse before it got better. Carlos Baleba pulled up with a hamstring injury early in the second half. Then Matheus Cunha won a penalty, and Bruno Fernandes, made to take it twice, scored the retake on 58 minutes. "For Bruno to double take that penalty, to have the mentality and finish like that, he deserves a lot of credit," Carrick said.
Bryan Mbeumo hit both posts with a single shot, Roma cleared one off the line and United had two more penalty appeals as the side unbeaten in Serie A began to wobble. On 83 minutes Leonardo Balerdi's woeful clearance fell to Cunha, who slotted in the equaliser. Three minutes later the Brazilian finished at the near post from Shea Lacey's pass and tore off his shirt in front of the fans. That earned him a yellow card.
In stoppage time a late challenge on Balerdi brought a second, and Cunha was off. BBC Sport's figures make him the first United player to score and be sent off in the same Champions League game. At the final whistle he tried to join the celebrations, and the Manchester Evening News reports that Carrick steered him back towards the tunnel.
“This place does magical things, it's done it before and it'll do it over and over again at some point in the future.” – Michael Carrick, BBC Sport
"I spoke at half-time about being positive. Anything can happen here. I've seen it many times over the years," Carrick told UEFA. "The boys were fantastic second half. They kept going, didn't get disappointed and got exactly what they deserved in the end."
He would not get carried away. "I don't have a crystal ball to know what happens next. We move on to the weekend. We've got a really important game here against Aston Villa." Of Lacey he said: "He has got that little glint in his eyes, he plays with a bit of mischief if you like."
Fernandes, who was benched against Bournemouth after criticising his manager, spoke about it. "We don't need to save anyone's job. The club needed that win, the players needed that win," he said. "The manager is the one who makes the decisions. It doesn't change the belief I have of the manager."
It was United's first win in ten games and 54 days, in front of 73,747. Villa are next on Sunday.
Where it leaves them: Man Utd 17th on 6 points; AS Roma 20th on 4 points. The win, United's first in ten games, lifts them back into the league-phase race after Matchday 4.
“For Bruno to double take that penalty, to have the mentality and finish like that, he deserves a lot of credit,”

RAPHINHA ENDS VILLA'S PERFECT RUN
By Our Special Correspondent
Barcelona 3, Aston Villa 0. Barcelona: Lamine Yamal 7, Raphael Dias Belloli 52, 64. Yamal pounces on a seventh-minute gift, Raphinha strikes twice, and Emery's unhappy history in Barcelona goes on
Unai Emery spent his 55th birthday in the driving Catalan rain, watching Barcelona end Aston Villa's perfect Champions League start.
Villa had won three out of three and arrived on a club-record run of four straight wins in the competition. Seven minutes in, it went wrong. Zion Suzuki played the ball to João Gomes, Pedri pressed, and the slack pass went straight to Lamine Yamal, who curled in. UEFA says the goal made him the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history.
Villa had chances to reply in the first half and took none of them, which their manager kept coming back to. Barcelona did not miss theirs. Seven minutes after the break Fermín López found Raphinha on the edge of the area, and his shot deflected off Pau Torres's heel and past Suzuki. Twelve minutes later João Cancelo got away from John McGinn and crossed for Raphinha to score from six yards.
Leon Goretzka sent a glancing header against the post, and Suzuki saved from Fermín after another loose pass. Yamal missed twice late on. PA's report notes that Emery has now lost 15 of his 16 trips to face Barcelona.
The win, in front of 52,662, took Hansi Flick's side level with Villa on nine points and above them into second.
“In this level you must be more ruthless.” – Unai Emery, TNT Sports
Emery would not blame Gomes. "João Gomes started not very confidently with the ball, not only for the error he made but that was part of our style, so I'm not blaming him," he said. "We have worked over four years together and we've made those mistakes before and we will always overcome those mistakes."
"If we could score one goal with the chances we had in the first half, maybe it would have been different, but we were not clinical," he told TNT Sports. "Overall we are competing fantastically in the Champions League with nine points. The 3-0 is more than we suffered but we accept this defeat."
McGinn called it "a huge learning curve for us". "Barcelona made the right decisions at the right times and scored really good goals," the Villa captain said. "I think we are competitive against teams at this level, we have shown that whether it is Bayern Munich or PSG."
Where it leaves them: Barcelona 5th on 9 points; Aston Villa 6th on 9 points. Barcelona move level with Villa on nine points and above them into second.

KARETSAS ENDS BETIS' PERFECT RUN
By Our Special Correspondent
Borussia Dortmund 2, Real Betis 1. Borussia Dortmund: Fábio Silva 49, Konstantinos Karetsas 72; Real Betis: Aitor Ruibal 67. An 18-year-old's first Champions League goal puts Dortmund level with the Spaniards on nine points
Real Betis arrived at the Westfalenstadion with three wins from three. Borussia Dortmund sent them home with nothing.
Before kick-off, both teams stood for a minute's silence for Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who died after an on-field collision in a Spanish second-division match on Monday.
The breakthrough came four minutes into the second half. England Under-21 midfielder Jobe Bellingham's shot was saved by the foot of Betis goalkeeper Alvaro Valles, and former Wolves striker Fabio Silva was well placed to convert the rebound.
Betis equalised in the 67th minute. Substitute Aitor Ruibal had been on for five minutes when he arrived unmarked at the back post to turn in Abde Ezzalzouli's low cross.
Dortmund responded at once. Bellingham's diving header drew a brilliant one-handed save from Valles, and Nico Schlotterbeck headed over. In the 72nd minute, Silva found 18-year-old Konstantinos Karetsas, who scored his first Champions League goal with a low strike.
Both sides have nine points from four games. Dortmund play at Arsenal on 24 November.
Where it leaves them: Borussia Dortmund 12th on 9 points; Real Betis 11th on 9 points.
