ODEGAARD REBOUND KEEPS GUNNERS CLEAR

Captain slots the loose ball after Tzolakis denied Madueke, as Arsenal grind out a ninth win from ten against stubborn Hull

ARSENAL 1 (Martin Odegaard 72) HULL CITY 0

In front of 60,285 at the Emirates, Arsenal found a way. Hull City made them wait until the 72nd minute, but Martin Ødegaard's rebound finish secured a 1-0 win and a ninth league victory from ten for the champions.

The visitors arrived without a win since August and left with nothing, yet they were never a soft touch. Early on David Raya lost flight of a corner and had to recover, then he denied Elliot Stroud from inside the box as Hull asked the first questions of a defence that had kept three straight clean sheets.

As a goalless first half drifted towards the break, Kai Havertz had his shirt pulled by Nobel Mendy in the area. Farai Hallam went to the monitor, confirmed a holding offence — then ruled Havertz offside. That was the half in miniature: Arsenal frustrated, Hull organised, nothing settled.

After the restart Arsenal kept probing. Noni Madueke finally forced Konstantinos Tzolakis into a save, and Ødegaard was first to the loose ball, thumping it in from close range. His third Premier League goal of the season — he managed one in the whole of last campaign — and the Emirates could breathe.

Madueke almost made it two late on. Tzolakis tackled him, the ball ricocheted off Mendy towards goal, and Brooke Norton-Cuffy cleared off the line. Hull pushed, Joe Gelhardt found the box, but Arsenal headed clear. Nine wins from ten, still top, still clear — even when the afternoon was anything but smooth.

DELAP DOUBLE SINKS CITY AS FOREST CLIMB

Cunha strikes early and Delap scores twice, the second off the woodwork on the counter, as Forest climb out of the bottom three

NOTTINGHAM FOREST 3 (Jair Cunha 6, Liam Delap 18, 73) MANCHESTER CITY 1 (Rayan Cherki 52). Att: 30,762

With 30,762 at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest beat Manchester City 3-1. Liam Delap scored twice and Jair Cunha once, and the result lifts Oliver Glasner's side out of the relegation zone.

Forest went in front after six minutes. Cunha found space in the centre of the box and put a left-footed shot into the bottom corner. Twelve minutes later Xaver Schlager led a fast break and Delap drove his finish high into the net. City had more of the threat late in the half, but Forest went in 2-0 up.

Enzo Maresca made two changes at the break, bringing on Nico O'Reilly and Matheus Nunes for Josko Gvardiol and Marc Guéhi. Seven minutes into the second half Rayan Cherki gave City hope with a stunning left-footed shot into the top corner.

After that City had most of the ball. They finished with 78 per cent possession and 753 passes to Forest's 206. Forest sat deep behind three centre-backs and finished with four bookings. At 2-1, a deflected shot from Ryan Yates dropped onto the roof of Gianluigi Donnarumma's net.

The goal that settled it came from a counter.

OKAFOR OFF THE BENCH TO SINK SPURS

Substitute strikes two minutes after coming on as Leeds finally break De Zerbi's side

LEEDS 1 (Noah Okafor 79) TOTTENHAM 0

Daniel Farke went to his bench and his bench delivered. Noah Okafor had been on the pitch for barely two minutes when he settled a tight lunchtime contest at Elland Road, and Leeds had the win their second-half pressure deserved.

The goal came from a throw-in Tottenham never dealt with. The ball dropped inside the Spurs penalty area, nobody stepped up to clear it, and Okafor was quickest to it, taking a touch to make room before hammering his finish past Antonin Kinsky on 79 minutes. Harry Wilson, who came on alongside him, was credited with the assist. Okafor was booked a minute later for his celebration, a price he will gladly pay.

The first half was a stand-off, with only six shots between the sides. Leeds started brighter, pressing every Spurs touch, and Spurs survived a VAR check for handball when a cross struck an arm that was judged to be above the sleeve line. The visitors grew into it before the break, but neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled and it was goalless at half-time.

The second half belonged to the home side.

SALECH SPARKS CARDIFF'S GREAT ESCAPE

Cardiff 5, Burnley 4

Cardiff City 5, Burnley 4. Read it twice. In front of 19,462 at the Cardiff City Stadium, the Bluebirds trailed 4-1 on 62 minutes and still won it.

Andréas Hountondji opened the scoring on 15 minutes from Lucas Pires' pass, and Marcus Edwards made it two on 25, set up by Jaydon Banel. Ollie Tanner pulled one back on 40, assisted by Rubin Colwill, but Burnley led 2-1 at half-time. Largie Ramazani added a third on 55, and when Alex Robertson turned the ball into his own net on 62 the game looked finished.

Brian Barry-Murphy sent on Yousef Salech for Tanner, and a minute later Salech scored from Cian Ashford's pass. Jack Moylan's penalty on 75 made it 4-3. Salech levelled on 82, with Colwill providing again. Then, four minutes into stoppage time, Robertson, the man who scored the own goal, met Chris Willock's pass and won the match.
