FOXES SEE OFF CITY AFTER CUP SLUGFEST

Oxford City 2, Leicester 4. Oxford City: Scott Pollock 31, Joshua James Ashby 62; Leicester: Louis Page 16, Emil Riis Jakobsen 53, K. Doyle 59, Tom Watson 82. Page, Riis, Doyle and Watson earn round two as Pollock corner stuns

Leicester City beat Oxford City 4-2 at The MGroup Stadium to reach the FA Cup second round, with 3,462 watching National League North promotion hopefuls push the League One side all the way.

Louis Page opened with a long-range strike on 16 minutes. Leicester fan Scott Pollock levelled on 31, scoring direct from a corner. After the break Harry Howell's cross found Emil Riis for 1-2, and Kamari Doyle drilled a third on 59 before Josh Ashby chipped Oxford back into it on 62. Substitute Tom Watson sealed it on 82, firing across Jonathan Maxted.

Russell Martin's Foxes go into Monday's draw; Ross Jenkins' hosts go out with credit intact.

“The result was probably fair. We didn't do enough to win the game [although] we were definitely in the game. The players were superb. The defensive output the boys put in was through the roof, and we knew we had to respect Leicester - they're a top team with great players.” – Ross Jenkins, Oxford City manager, speaking to BBC Radio Oxford, via BBC Sport

“I'm really pleased just to get through. It was a really tough tie. They put it on TV on a Friday night because it was difficult - a different surface, a team that's really well-coached and really well-organised. We knew there would be moments when it was tough. We actually played some really good football at times but the last bit wasn't there in the first half.” – Russell Martin, Leicester manager, speaking to BBC Radio Leicester, via BBC Sport

RUSSELL-DENNY FIRES GAS INTO ROUND TWO

Bristol Rovers 2, Cambridge United 0. Bristol Rov: Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny 57, Fabrizio Cavegn 72. Cavegn seals it as Kaikai hits the bar from the spot

Bristol Rovers beat Cambridge United 2-0 at the Memorial Stadium to reach the FA Cup second round, ending a seven-game winless run in all competitions.

Reiss Russell-Denny, the Tottenham loanee, broke the deadlock on 58 minutes with a low drive from the edge of the box. Fabrizio Cavegn doubled it on 72, firing into the bottom corner from range after Tom James cut inside.

Cambridge's late lifeline vanished when Sullay Kaikai smashed a penalty against the bar. Steve Evans' League Two side go through; Neil Harris' League One visitors go out.

“I'm just pleased for the players. Players deserve enormous credit, because they were under pressure. I was under pressure. We don't kid ourselves. Football is a results business.” – Steve Evans, Bristol Rovers manager, via Bristol Live

“I feel for the fans that travelled because we didn't give a good account of ourselves. I'm sorry for their cost and time and it's down to the players to apologise for the performance, but we played our part as well.” – Neil Harris, Cambridge United manager, via Express & Star
