Everton v Coventry City

Moyes draws level with Catterick as Lampard returns
Seventh-placed Everton, two wins in four days over Newcastle, host a Coventry side led by their former manager on Friday night.
Yeah, we're just nursing [Branthwaite] along a wee bit, just checking to see he's okay, so we need to see how he is, yes.David Moyes on Jarrad Branthwaite Everton FC
David Moyes takes charge of his 592nd game as Everton manager tonight, equalling Harry Catterick's record. "I got told about this a few weeks ago. I hadn't realised I was that close," he told his Thursday news conference. "I'm very proud to be up there and talked about in the same breath as him. I wish I had the trophies he had to go with it, though!"
Everton arrive seventh after back-to-back wins over Newcastle United, first in the Carabao Cup and then 1-0 at St James' Park on Monday, when Thierno Barry tapped in the only goal. Barry has already matched last season's eight-goal tally in just 12 appearances. Moyes joked that Erling Haaland "should be worried because he is just behind him now".
Moyes said the side deserve "great praise" for their start, "especially after everything that went on in the summer", but called the table "very hard to judge" for now. He expects a "really difficult" and "interesting" game against a Coventry side who have taken nine points from their past five league matches.
Frank Lampard will be in the opposing dugout at Everton for the first time since leaving the club in January 2023. Moyes said Lampard steered Everton "through a really difficult period" and has proved a "really good manager" at Coventry. Lampard, for his part, said he "really enjoyed his time" on Merseyside and has been "impressed" with his old club this season.
The promoted Sky Blues have had a mixed autumn. A 4-1 win over Newcastle was followed by defeats by Spurs and Fulham, before last weekend's 3-1 win over bottom side Sunderland lifted them out of the bottom three. Lampard singled out Ethan Pinnock, who wore the armband last week, saying the defender had been "outstanding".
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall goes into the game with an England squad announcement due the same day. Moyes said the midfielder "certainly must be around it, knocking on the door".
